Our 2022 Scholarship Winners are Riley Phipps and Emma Lee-Pesotski
BCREA Scholarship Committee Co-Chair Janet Kochel introduced the two recipients of our Robert M.Oberholser / Harriet Di Leonardo Scholarships for 2022 at the May BCREA Membership luncheon.
Riley Phipps is a student at Shawnee High School and plans to use her Oberholser / Di Leonardo Scholarship to attend James Madison
University. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Italian National Honor Society.
She has been a two-time qualifier for both State DECA, a National DECA qualifier and placing fourth in South Jersey as a FBLA State qualifier.
Riley is the VP of the Future Educators Club of America at her school and was active in student government. She also participated in the Shawnee girls’ basketball program for three years, two as a
player and one as a manager. In addition, Riley has given many volunteer hours to community support programs including Foster the Family – NJ, has worked with children as a YMCA after-care counselor and a camp counselor at Nitro-1 Sports. She also worked at Funplex for three years as a
seasonal lifeguard.
One of Riley’s teachers described her as a person who “will excel in her academic studies and will
surely get involved in volunteering both on and off campus.”
Emma Lee-Pesotski is a student at Seneca High School. She will be using her Oberholser / DiLeonardo Scholarship to attend The College of New Jersey. Emma is a member of the National Honor Society, a four-year Honor Roll recipient, President of Future Educators of America, and was a peer
tutor. She attended Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, Girl’s State and has been an active participant in student government.
She has done volunteer work in her community and has been on the Seneca Track team for two years. Emma also works on her family’s farm when help is needed.
Her school counselor has stated,” Not only does Emma have a strong character, but she also possesses the commitment necessary to achieve academic excellence at the university level.”
BCREA congratulates these two outstanding young women and wish them each well in their ongoing educational journey.
